TV Repair Is Inevitable

Even though you may take all of the necessary steps to protect your television, there is most likely going to be some situations in which you are going to need TV repair.

Most new TV either Plasma LCD or LED have a life span of five to six years, the older the unit is the better it is.

Let's assume that in 2007 you purchased a 42' plasma TV and paid about $3500.00. The money you paid was for the quality of the components and the design of the circuitry to assure long lasting performance. It is in the best interest of the manufacture to build a reliable device so the it will not fail, because if you purchased a XYZ brand and it performed for you trouble free for numerous years there is a high probability that when time comes you will replace it with the same brand.

Today's market offers a large variety of televisions, with over 70% of features that the average consumer will not know how to use or that they are even installed.  Technology has gone a long way in the last five years and although XYZ can now produce  a larger TV with more features for less money it is not necessarily better nor will it have the same durability of the older set.

You can still purchase a $3500.00 XYZ Television today and be assured that it's performance and durability will be much better than the $700.00 XYZ Television from the same retailer; don't think you got a bargain, you got what you paid for!! Which brings me to the repairs cost, it will cost you the same amount of money whether you need to have the power board or the main board replaced on your $3500.00 TV or the $700.00 TV and TV Repair Is Inevitable.

Pro fixing: Until now, the TV has worked well, and you like it, so if the replacement part is likely to keep it going for another 5 years or so, that seems worthwhile - but how long should we expect an LCD TV to last anyway? Repairing is probably cheaper, though it's unclear by how much. I think it's also better for the environment, since we won't be discarding one hunk of plastic and glass for another.

Pro replacing: Prices have come down, so the replacement would be a better quality, more reliable set (though again, how long should an LCD TV last?). The cost of replacing it is known, whereas we don't know the cost of repairs until we've already spent $150+ sending it in and paying a diagnostic fee. If you a electing to buy a new TV also purchase an Extended warranty.

Keep in mind the additional cost when you buy a new TV:
