About digital Television service and reception.

Digital television received with the correct antenna and a digital set top box brings DVD high definition quality digital tv production to your Television.

One of the big advantages of Digital Television reception is the elimination of Ghosting or multiple images on the screen combined with a perfect high definition picture and high quality sound (in some cases 5.1 surround sound).

The correct type of digital tv installation requires more that just the Digital antenna. The complete digital tv installation should be of a higher quality than was required (and in many cases was performed) for the old Analogue system in particular if it was installed some years ago. Analogue reception becomes snowy but Digital is either perfect or nothing at all, it has no in between!

The cabling should be of a double shielded Coaxial type preferably RG6 specification, and the connection devices should be a screw on type called F type in the industry. Amplifiers should also be designed for the Digital Television signal as a lot of the old designs distort the signal instead of passing it cleanly and flat in response.

The above points are worthwhile considering when the cost is weighted against what is spent these days on good Plasma or LCD screen or a complete Home Theatre System. The results can be as good as your DVD player and also provide a range of programs in High Definition and Wide screen. The digital TV service not only gives the bonus of extra channels and programming but also clearer picture and sound quality.

We can supply a Digital TV Set Top Box to complement the installation. Not all digital tv set top boxes are equal and we can advise and/or supply the correct digital TV choice for you.

This covers all the time required to establish the nature of the fault and give you the repair cost.

We carry all the necessary equipment and material in our van to complete your job at the time of estimate. If you proceed with the repair

at the time of the visit the service call fee will be incorporated in the repair cost.

If we need to return because we do not have the correct antenna or material to complete your job satisfactory there will be no additional costs to you.

All our work is guaranteed for 12 months and some of the equipment we use has 3 years warranty.

And YES we do have the latest test equipment to assure fast and accurate assessment of your reception.

Please Note: poor reception areas do require special equipment and additional time to survey the site for the best reception therefore additional cost will apply.

A note from experience, over 90% of phone calls we get as an authorised service center is "The Digital signal especially one channel is continuously breaking up, we have had another firm check the antenna and it's all good. So it must be the TV". Three things come into play here;

The manufacture or the extended warranty company will not cover 'no fault found' with the digital receiver.
If you have your antenna repaired or replaced and this does not fix the fault you probably did not need to spend the money and because it does work with a set top box does not signify that the receiver in the television is faulty, you may still have an antenna issue. Any reputable antenna installer has to be able to read the "BER" (Bit Error Rate) before he or she replaces the antenna.
Please note this is general information. Use an antenna installer who can measure error rates of digital signals (they should be able to give you BER figures of less than 1 in 10 000). If they cannot do this, get someone else.

VAST Viewer Access Satellite Television available now!

Digital TV from Satellite

The Australian Government is funding a new free to air satellite service – the Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST). VAST will provide digital television to viewers in remote areas of Australia who currently rely on analogue services from the Optus Aurora platform; as well as viewers who are unable to receive digital TV through their normal antenna because of issues relating to local interference, terrain or distance from the transmitter in their area.

Am I eligible to get the new service?

The VAST service commences officially for eligible viewers in all states except for Western Australia on 15 December 2010.
There are two categories of viewers eligible to access VAST-
1. Viewers in the Remote Central & Eastern Australia Licence Area: VIEW MAP HERE
2. Viewers in regional and metropolitan areas served by normal terrestrial TV services but who are unable to receive TV after the DIGITAL SWITCHOVER
Remote Central & Eastern:
You will be able to apply for reception of VAST services from 15 December 2010. Please understand that VAST commercial broadcasters are currently building the new services and will not be able to process applications from your area prior to 15 December 2010.
Regional & Metropolitan Viewers:
As digital switchover rolls out across Australia, regional and metropolitan viewers who will not be able to receive television after switchover can apply for VAST access 6 months prior to switchover. MORE INFORMATION HERE

VAST is now available for viewers who are unable to receive adequate terrestrial reception in Mildura/Sunraysia, regional South Australia, Broken Hill and regional Victoria. VAST is also available to viewers in the remote central eastern Australia (RCEA) licence area, and to viewers who are authorised to receive the current Aurora service as an out-of-area service.
VAST will feature the following channels:
ABC1, ABC2, ABC3, ABCNews24, SBS ONE, SBS TWO, SBS HD, Southern Cross Central Seven , 7TWO, 7mate, Imparja, GO!, Gem, Ten, OneHD, One, Eleven and Regional News.

The VAST service provides the same number of television channels that are available in capital cities. It will feature channels carrying programs sourced from Southern Cross Seven, Imparja Nine and the Ten network, and the main national broadcaster services, ABC1 and SBS ONE, together with digital SD channels; ABC2, ABC3, SBS TWO, 7TWO, GO! and Eleven, and the high definition channels; ABC News 24 HD, SBS HD, 7mate (Seven HD), GEM (Nine HD), and ONE HD (Ten HD).

The VAST service will also provide viewers with access to the local regional news services currently broadcast by the commercial broadcasters in their relevant terrestrial licence areas. These services will be provided through a dedicated news channel. In addition, the news services of the national broadcasters, the ABC and the SBS, will also be provided. ABC news will be provided on a state basis and through the ABC’s 24 hour news channel, ABC News 24.

What equipment do I need?
To receive the VAST service, viewers will need a VAST set-top box and, if you don’t already have one, a satellite dish. The retail cost for a high definition VAST set top box is likely to be about $300.00 (including GST). Viewers who already receive their television services by way of the Aurora remote area broadcasting service will be able to connect a VAST set top box to their existing satellite dish. A complete installation( Satellite dish,LNB, Coax, dish mount ,receiver, service call and labour) will cost betwin $750.00 and $1100.00.
Access to the VAST service will be managed by the use of a smart card, which will come with the set top box. Viewers will need to activate the smart card to receive commercial television services, but the smart card will be pre-activated to receive the national (ABC and SBS) services.

The set top box will have to be registered to continue to access the national services
